ADF (Acid detergent Fiber) determination

Determination of ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber)
Determination of ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber)

In order to provide an economical and efficient animal production, a correct feeding method should be applied. This is only possible with the recognition of the animal and feed. One of the two main production areas of agriculture is animal production. Nutrients such as meat, milk and eggs are the basis of a balanced diet. Animal products, proteins, minerals and vitamins, including all the nutrients that people need in appropriate proportions. The most important indicator of social and individual development is the production and consumption of animal products at an acceptable rate.

Animals also need carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals and water to survive. Animals take these nutrients from the food they eat and the water they drink.

The feeds can be completely natural products of various vegetable or animal origin, such as hay, corn, barley, grass and milk. They may also be processing residues or by-products thereof and fully technological materials. Products such as wheat bran, corn gluten and oilseed meal are processing residues. In addition, some artificial feeds, such as fully artificially derived amino acids and various minerals and vitamins, have nutritional value.

There are two criteria that show how digestible cellulose in the forage is: NDF (Neutral Detergent Cellulose) ratio and ADF (Acid Detergent Cellulose) ratio.

NDF is a major component of the forage and the NDF value significantly affects the total digestibility of the roughage. Previously, digestibility values of roughages were determined according to ADF content. However, this assessment did not reveal the change in digestion due to NDF in the total forage.

Soluble substances in NDF are generally composed of sugar, starch, crude protein and fat and are digestible at a percentage of 98. However, as the amount of NDF increases, the soluble substances in NDF decrease.

In the authorized laboratories, ADF (Acid Detergent Fiber) determination studies are carried out within the scope of chemical tests and the standards published by local and foreign organizations are complied with in these studies.
